Noreen’s late three sinks Gulf Coast

Kyle Noreen’s 3-pointer with 17 seconds left was the difference in Radford’s 64-63 victory over Florida Gulf Coast Monday in the teams’ final game in the Las Vegas Classic.

Rockdale graduate Bernard Thompson had a chance to give the Eagles the lead, but missed a 3-pointer with five seconds to play.

Thompson, a junior who had 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting on 3-pointers, put Gulf Coast (6-7) up 56-52 with the last of his threes at the 6:31 mark. Javonte Green, who had a game-high 25 points, converted three lay ups over a span of 2:20, including twice tying the game. It was 61-61 after Green’s last bucket, then Chase Fieler (team-highs with 21 points and 10 rebounds) had a tip-in to put Gulf Coast up 63-61 with 39 seconds remaining. Noreen followed with the game-winner.

In an evenly-matched game, each team team shot 47 percent from the floor and from behind the arc, and had the same number of rebounds (29) and turnovers (12).

R.J. Price added 13 points for Radford (8-4), which won for the fourth consecutive time against teams from the Atlantic Sun.

Florida A&M 75, Sacred Heart 70

James Adams scored 23 points, including the go-ahead free throws as the Rattlers won at the Las Vegas Classic.

Florida A&M (3-10), which snapped a five-game losing streak, trailed 53-49 before Adams took over. He hit a jumper and had a four-point play, the last of which put the Rattlers ahead for good at 55-53 with 7:38 to play.

Trey Kellum added 15 points and 10 rebounds for A&M, while Sacred Heart, which at 2-12 has equaled its worst start since an identical beginning to the 2004-2005 season, was paced by Chris Evans’ 18 points.

No. 14 Iowa State 83, Akron 60

The Associated Press No. 14 Cyclones won in the semi finals of the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii to equal the best start in school history.

Iowa State (10-0) matched the start of the 1996-1997 team that advanced to the regional semifinals, thanks to a dominant effort on both ends of the floor. The Cyclones knocked down 53 percent of their field goal attempts and held Akron (7-3) to only 37 percent.

Iowa State’s starting five was excellent, contributing 77 points on 27-of-44 shooting, led by Georges Niang (22 points, 7-of-10 field goals), Melvin Ejim (21, 7-of-9) and Dustin Hogue (18, 6-of-8).

Reggie McAdams had 13 points to lead the Zips, who had their six-game winning streak snapped.

Oregon State 58, George Mason 54

Roberto Nelson had a hand in the Beavers’ final 10 points - scoring eight himself and assisting on another bucket in a victory in the consolation rounds of the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii.

Nelson assisted on Devon Collier’s lay up, the last of Collier’s 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, with just under two minutes to play that put Oregon State (7-3) ahead to stay at 50-49. Nelson added a jumper and was 6-of-6 from the free throw line over the final 28 seconds.

George Mason (5-6), which was playing a team from the Pac 10/12 for the first time since a loss to Oregon in the second round of the 2004 post-season NIT, got a team-high 15 points from Bryon Allen.
